Sierra Leone Airports Authority
The Sierra Leone Airports Authority was established by Act No.8 of 1988 as an autonomous and self-sustaining entity with a clear mandate to manage both the Freetown International Airport and the Hastings Airfield.

The Remodeling of Sierra Leone Airports Authority
In 2020, the Government of Sierra Leone signed a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contract for the construction of a new airport terminal and related facilities at the Freetown International. The contractors SUMMA Group is a Turkish Company that won the contract through a competitive bidding process with varied experience in the construction, management and operation of airport related projects. The BOT agreement called for a decoupling process for Summa Group to manage the operation of Freetown International Airport limiting SLAA to provide Air Navigational Services and Airport Operational Compliance functions as stipulated for in the agreement. The Authority have proudly delivered on this promise. Today, our organizational culture is framed on: making air navigational services safer and smarter; delivering benefits through technology and infrastructure; and promoting Just culture.

Business Policies
The Sierra Leone Airports Authority (SLAA) performs its statutory duties, according to the policy guidelines provided by the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Transport and Aviation. The Authority is guided by these in all of its business dealings and agreements with contractors and various third parties with which it does business. SLAA welcomes the private sector to partner with it in various areas of its statutory mandate to provide adequate infrastructure and facilities and service delivery to support the aviation industry in Sierra Leone.
