The organization is not entitled to any subvention from Government but has the authority to levy charges on users of airport facilities and services to generate revenue to finance airport safety and security including payment of staff over heads and provision and maintenance of essential airport infrastructure and equipment.
The Authority is also charged with the responsibility of coordinating overall airport activities to guarantee the security, safety and comfort of passengers and to optimize service delivery to meet the expectations of Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority, Airlines, ICAO and the air travelling Public.

2020
The Remodeling of SLAA
The Government of Sierra Leone signed a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contract for the construction of a new airport terminal and related facilities at the Freetown International. The contractors SUMMA Group is a Turkish Company that won the contract through a competitive bidding process with varied experience in the construction, management and operation of airport related projects. The BOT agreement called for a decoupling process for Summa Group to manage the operation of Freetown International Airport limiting SLAA to provide Air Navigational Services and Airport Operational Compliance functions as stipulated for in the agreement. The Authority have proudly delivered on this promise. Today, our organizational culture is framed on: making air navigational services safer and smarter; delivering benefits through technology and infrastructure; and promoting Just culture.
